HRCP Summer Sessions

HRCP places a balanced emphasis on musical growth as well as personal and social development. When studying in a chamber ensemble, students often build close friendships with the other members of the group while expanding musical independence and skills. The absence of a conductor also allows participants to make their own musical decisions.

For nearly two decades HRCP has been receiving letters from parents, students and alumni telling us that a summer at HRCP has changed their lives—even beyond confidence on their instrument. Students and parents alike describe an increased sense of self-identity, enhanced self-worth and leadership aptitude. We are proud of our unique program and our ability to provide a safe and supportive environment in which young musicians are nurtured and given the opportunity to explore and express themselves. Please check out some of our students’ thoughts in their own words on our Alumni page and consider a gift to help the young musicians of Hampton Roads Chamber Players.

"I approach everything as chamber music. Even with Beethoven symphonies, I lead from the violin and basically encourage the orchestra to think of it as a giant string quartet."

HAMPTON ROADS CHAMBER PLAYERS

Hampton Roads Chamber Players offers a venue for dedicated and talented young string players to study chamber music. Each semester and music camp culminates in several performances that showcase their skills and techniques. Our faculty is comprised of members of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, professional musicians from the Hampton Roads area, and guest artists from other regions of the United States. See our About and Faculty pages for more information.

Fall semester begins in early September and Spring Semester in early January. Two week-long Summer Camp sessions are held the last two weeks of June. Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  We are always seeking talented musicians to participate. Please
